Gulf Controls was founded in July, 1969 by George Johnson and Andy DeBoer with the stated goal of “serving our customers with the finest products we can obtain in our industry, accompanied by a high level of technical support, service and product availability”. We represent manufacturers of Pneumatic, Hydraulic, and Electro-Mechanical products. In general, Gulf Controls is the only authorized factory distributor in Florida for the manufacturers that we represent. 

The company operates throughout the state of Florida and South Georgia with outside salesmen resident in each significant trading area. These highly trained specialists are supported with additional expertise to assure that each customer’s requirements receive due attention. The first level of support consists of 3 District Managers, who also live in their area of responsibility. Three Product Managers (Pneumatic, Hydraulic and Electro-Mechanical) and 5 technical specialists provide expert technical and application support. The customer service staff, in addition to supporting outside salesmen with real-time answers to technical and logistics questions, also handles customer inquires. 

Our headquarters facility, in Tampa Florida, consists of 35,000 sq. ft. of warehouse space and 19,000 sq. ft. of office space. Included is a 2500 sq. ft. training room and 4000 sq. ft. of enclosed, air-conditioned hydraulic and pneumatic assembly shops. We also have an Underwriters Laboratories electrical panel shop (including one of only two UL marine panel approvals in the state of Florida). In addition to 6 warehousemen, 4 full-time technicians perform assembly work and a variety of other value-added functions. 

We have two divisions with 29 individuals that specialize in service and repair work. Action Hydraulics, with locations in Miami and West Palm Beach, is a full line hydraulic service center, and Circuit Services, located in Jacksonville, is also a full line hydraulic service center, including design/fabrication and field repair and installation.

In March 2001, Gulf Controls joined The Hillman Company’s group of fluid power distributors. Mr. DeBoer continues as CEO, and there have been no changes in the company’s philosophy or operating principles.
